About Author Cassie

First and formost, I have always loved Stories. I started writing before I could write words. I was found reading a book when I was supposed to be working on my homework, late into the night or on the school bus.  In middle school I decided that I liked creating my own stories as much as I liked reading them and so decided to become an Author.

I still love reading books and have to admit I am the kind of reader who looks at the clock at 2:00am and says WHOOPS. Or who looks at the clock at 11:30 pm and decides to keep reading because I am at the climax and can’t stop there! Lack of sleep is worth it.  

My favorite books to read are Young Adult fantasy, Sweet Contemporary Romance, Regency Romance, Light Fantasy, Mystery, Fairy Tale Retellings, Paranormal, & Romantic Suspense. Honestly, I like a taste of romance along with any story.

​I love writing because I get to play the role of both a Fairy Godmother and a Supervillain for every story I create. Which rocks my world. How much fun is it say that you are a supervillain and a fairy godmother? It's seriously cool! What other job combines both of those things?! 

I have created stories since I was little, while doing chores or other tasks that let my mind wander and I have to admit I have a long list to write, and that list continually grows even now. So, stay tuned for lots and lots of stories!!

WHY am I a multi-genre Author?
​Well, I love to read multiple genres and I love to come up with stories in multiple genres. I didn't want to limit the kind of stories I wanted to share. So I decided to not deny who I am. A multi-genre author who loves many different stories with a side of romance. 
It's more fun this way anyway, right? More stories for me to share with you!

I write my Christian Romantic Suspense books and  YA princess/
fairytale retellings under my name Cassie M. Shiels. I write my sweet contemporary romance books (I like to call them candy books) under my name Cassandra Shiels. I write a few picture books under the name Cassie Shiels. They're slight variaions to my names just to help my readers know what kind of book they are picking up from me.

I was born in Idaho and will always love it but right now I live in Utah, with my husband and sweet little family. I love loving where it is warm and I don't have to feel too cold. I have five kids four girls and one boy. They are my world and I love them more than anything.

I started to read Romance when I was a little girl. My love of romance books started with Gail Carson Levine's books (Ella Enchanted) and grew from there. My love for romance books continues to grow as I read more and more sweet romance, historical romance, romantic suspense, rom com's and etc. 

I am a member of The American Night Writers Association (ANWA). I served as their executive secratary in 2021& 2022. I am the Prident-elect in 2024, and will serve as president of ANWA in 2025. I  have graduated from The Institute of Children's Literature. I also graduated from BYU-Idaho and the Vogue beauty college and am Currently in Grad School getting my MA in Teaching Elementary Education.

​I am constantly reading and learning to grow my writing skills. I enjoy attending writing conferences any chance I get to continue learning. I feel continuing to learn is vital to my writing and I like to share that with other writers too.

Why I love writing!!

A favorite thing

One of my favorite books of all time is the Harry Potter series. I was one of those kids who preordered the books starting with book number 4 (now you know how oldish I am)  and read them as fast as I could after I got the book in my hands. I even remember going to the midnight release of Harry Potter #7 The Deathly Hallows.  I'm a proud Ravenclaw.
​Other Fun facts about me:
​1. If you could have any pet real or imagined what would it be?
Hands down, I would have a pet dragon. A small one that could grow bigger if we needed to fly off and escape but small most often. Think pocket sized. I'd have one now if I could but my house is flammable.
​If I need to pick a real animal: I love foxes and owls and my dog Virginia and Cat Cinder.

2. Do you talk to your kids about your books? Yes, I love getting their feedback because I am writing for young adults and readers of sweet romance. They are usually happy to talk with me about a scene I'm trying to figure out or sit and listen to a part I just wrote. They also are the best cheerleaders!

3. What else do you like to do? I love to crochet, Machine Embroider, and watercolor paint. I'm all about projects you can use fabric, paint or sticky glue.

4. If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live? I'm there. I live in southern Utah and I adore red rocks, beautiful warm air and the warmth!! I grew up in Idaho and I will always love and appreciate the snow but I'm so glad I don't have to have much of that anymore unless I drive to visit it on purpose.
